When I first scheduled Kelsey and Kody's Newborn Session, Baby Colson wasn't even born yet. We normally schedule a Newborn session in studio, but Kelsey and Kody loved the idea of an outdoor theme. We decided to drive to a Sunflower field in order to capture this gorgeous families newest addition, plus some family photos. I did request their birth story via email. I love including birth stories from the parents as part of their blog story. It gives readers a sense of being their the day of the birth, even though we didn't officially meet baby Colson until August 29th, making him 11 days fresh and just as beautiful as ever. He was such a good sleeper and loved having his little hands on his face.

Our birth story.
We Went into labor August 17th 2021 and went into the hospital about 12:30pm. I had my water broke around 3pm but it wasn’t successful so they had to do it again around 5pm. Labor was long, yet boring until August 18th around 1pm I started getting horrible contractions. Kody tried to help as much as possible, but it wasn’t enough. Our midwife, Karri, jumped in and was a huge help lifting my belly from behind me and telling me to lean into her till my contraction was over. But as soon as another one started she jumped right back into helping me. At 2pm I had to opt for Epidural. The anesthesiologist was amazing talking to me the whole time telling me what is going on and what I will feel. Our nurse Jessica had me lean into her and grab her arms to squeeze, talking in my ear, calming me down. After that we noticed every time I would get a contraction his heart rate would drop. They had me tossing and turning and even on hands and knees (yes with an epidural). But the doctor came in as she was watching the monitor from at the desk and said nope we have to do a emergency C-section. So just like that everyone started running around getting Kody and I ready to go into the OR. I was crying because I was terrified, Kody trying to calm me down but terrified himself. We get into the OR they give me meds to calm me down, but then Colson's heart rate dropped really low and before Kody could even get into the OR they had to start. Finally the nurse came in with Kody and he sits next to me. Seconds later I bottom out as I hemorrhaged. The nurses and doctors were running around giving me meds to try to stop it and then finally it was under control and then I see my little baby boy pop around the curtain as soon as we seen him my fear and anxiety all went away knowing he was okay and I was going to be okay and my baby boy was finally here.
